Professional Background

Kate’s legal practice focuses on professional negligence matters, condominium law, employment and privacy law and professional negligence liability. She has appeared at all levels of Court in Alberta, including the Alberta Court of Appeal (most recently with a successful decision in favour of the condominium corporation inFerchoff v Condominium Corporation No 1412788, 2026 ABCA 8) and been involved in an Application for Leave to Appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada. She has also appeared before the Alberta Securities Commission, Canadian Investment Regulatory Panel and the Human Rights Tribunal.

She has extensive experience in insurance defence, social and commercial host liability and employment litigation. Her current primarily area of insurance defence work focusses on professional negligence cases involving architects, financial advisors, stockbrokers, insurance agents/brokers and psychologists and frequently provides seminar instruction for clients on various topics of interest.

In respect of her condominium law practice, Kate acts for individuals, boards of directors, property managers and developers with respect to various condominium matters including insurance claims, bylaw creation and interpretation, bylaw enforcement and condominium disputes.  She is active in the condominium legal community, with numerous speaking and presentation engagements (including but not limited to those at CCI local and national events as well as various Condominium and Real Estate Conferences in Alberta) as well as publishing regular articles on the changing condominium landscape from a legal perspective.  She is a Board Member of the Condominium Owner’s Forum (“COF”).

Kate was born and raised in Calgary, and started to work for Scott Venturo Rudakoff LLP (formerly Scott Venturo LLP) in 2002, while taking her undergraduate degree in History at the University of Victoria; whilst an undergraduate she also worked at a small law firm in Victoria. After working at Scott Venturo Rudakoff LLP full time, she went to England to study at the College of Law at Braboeuf Manor, Guildford, and was awarded her Bachelor of Laws Degree in 2011. Kate was awarded the Pennington’s Michael Fellingham Memorial Prize and the Surrey Resolution Law Prize while at law school.

In 2012, Kate returned to Scott Venturo Rudakoff LLP as an Articling Student and became an Associate in 2013. She has been a Partner at the firm since 2022.

Outside of the legal community, Kate is a mum of two young children and is actively engaged in the community at large. She is a former Board Member for the Foothills Country Hospice Society, current Board Member and Secretary on the Jennie Elliott School Council and the Team Manager for her son’s youth basketball league.
